Hoop Butts
Wait, what? Hoop butts? What are hoop butts? I like to call them hoop booties, personally, but they are basically the back of the finished embroidery hoop. This. month, come “behind” the scenes with me as I show you how I back my hoop booties before they go out to you! I know, I know, I enjoy a pun. I am basically a walking Dad Joke, but anyhoo, hoop butts.
Why does it matter? If the back is never going to be shown, why does it matter what it looks like? That is a wonderful question, and honestly, most of the time, it doesn’t really “matter” but I, personally think that if you are selling something, it should be as professional as possible. whatever that looks like to you, and to me, it looks like finishing an embroidery or cross stitch in fabric. There are also some occasions, where the back of a hoop can become part of the art itself. Depending on where the art piece is going to be displayed, the back can show.
I didn’t always back my hoops in fabric. I went through a felt phase for about a month, but I used to keep them naked. Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!?! The scandal of it all. lol. There are so many different ways that stitchers choose to finish their pieces and there is no right or wrong way, I really do want to get that across. I am no gatekeeper of the fiber arts, our own individual creativity is what makes us “us.” I just love a good theme and it kind of fits my personality. You think you are getting something pretty straight forward, and then BAM, unexpected hidden quirk.
Going back to loving a good theme, my brain likes continuity and patterns, so if I am stitching a cannabis piece, I have to have cannabis fabric, right? Or dogs? Or Prince? Or penises…….right??????? Hello, my name is Sara, and I am addicted to buying novelty fabric online.
